scientists are really the most miserable pple in the world. they are stressed and frustrated most of the time. i used to imagine scientists to be well-mannered cultured intellectual indiividuals. so, the manner part is really not exatly correct. so in the lab you hear f*** all the time, everywhere. i even heard a scientist talking in the most frustrated tone "so the potential f***-ups will be blah blah blah, we need to do blah blah to prevent f***ing up blah blah. it's f***ing driving me mad" yeah. and the students decribe every failures as f***-ups. i'm getting used to it. i'm getting used to it.

yar true. my new yorker flatmate punctuates every other sentence with a f***. like.. "that's f***ing stupid!" and "that's f***ing irritating!"..and she's supposed to be a biochemist. i think its just the american culture. well..the word has just become an adjective which sounds quite nice at times. familiarity breeds liking. haha. (its some lab report that i just did)

yah, i really really detest the use of the f word too. and in response to the previous comment, i don't think it's "part of the american culture."

i think it's american import/export.
A funny encounter with the F word.
I was chatting with my friend in the elevator and I said 'You should try it. It's so fun'. The security guard standing beside me mistook 'fun' for 'fuck'. and he shook his head and said 'Fuck is not a nice word.' in a deadly serious manner. I was ... for a while and later we all laughed about it.

be it americann culture or not, it's pretty common here. and i never said that i'm resisting it with much effort. it feels good to say it man. just like the s word and everything else. when life starts to suck, i don't i'll have much against cursing and swearing.
